IT GUYS:how dangerous is it to surf porn at work yea I do it sometimes so what (im not the only one). I don't want to lose my job so I was wondering how dangerous is it to look at porn at work? We have a 50 person company with a couple of servers. I've done it for awhile but nobody has said anything. Am I playing with fire?? BTW - I'm on a mac if that makes any difference

it depends are you violating known company policies, and did you sign an acknowledgement of agreement re: an employee handbook or some such document? If they are tracking such things -- they already know you're doing it. Whether it's used against you, who knows. Don't do anything else stupid to piss anyone off.

what's the company culture like? at the company i USED to work for, the CEO looked at porn, which was visible from the hallway outside his office. So our location was incredibly tolerant of it. We even had lunchroom chatter about favorite sites. But a location in Jesusland had an employee looking at porn who was given a formal warning, because his co-workers complained. The IT team members took their cue from the top folks in the areas they supported.

How would the most senior people at your job react if they found out? The IT people already probably have the ability to monitor and identify porn surfers. So the question is whether they regularly do so; e.g. whether management has asked the IT people to.
